About

I created SaabGarage.com to share my experiences with maintaining, modifying, and restoring Saab cars. I hope that this website can encourage others to restore their classic Saabs so they can be enjoyed for years to come.

I’ve always had an interest in cars and racing but I first became interested in Saabs back in 2001 when I was shopping for a car with my father. I remember looking at a red classic Saab 900 4 door. I wasn’t sure if I liked it at first but the first time I sat at the wheel it fit like a glove. I gripped the wheel while my father rattled off the features as my mind raced with thoughts of freedom. He explained the wrap around windscreen, the key at the floor, the safety, the ergonomics, the solid build, but all I could think about was that is that it just felt right.

I ended up purchasing another Saab. In 2001 I purchased a 1986 Saab 900S notchback, 2 door, silver, with a blue interior. I loved it from the start but the more I learned about the car and the brand the more I loved it. I didn’t get into the technical side of the car until one day when my father was driving with myself in the passenger seat and the timing chain snapped and busted a hole in the valve cover. I had wondered for weeks what the mysterious rattling sound from under the hood was and why the I had gotten the car so cheap ($600). Partially out of necessity and partially out of curiosity and interest I helped my father replace the cylinder head. From that point on I began tackling more and more projects.

Every little problem led to some tinkering,  more discovery, and a deeper understanding of the car. The more I found out about the car, the more I liked. The rally herritage, the classic exhaust burble, the funky engine layout. Then I discovered that they made a higher end model with a mysterious power device called a turbo, and then I learned about a mythical fire breathing beast called the SPG. I would daydream while walking to college classes and there was this black SPG on my mind that would allways roll past. I now own that car. The 1985 Saab 900 SPG.

I can’t say that I am the worlds foremost experts on Saabs but I am an enthusiast with some experience under the hood. I enjoy expanding my knowledge of cars and the mechanical inner workings of Saabs. I’ve even experimented with performance modifications including eprom burning and Megasquirt fuel and ignition contol. Join me as I delve deeper into the mechanical side of the Saab. I also have a few project cars in mind that I hope to share with the world if I can find the money. Feel free to share your knowledge with me as well. I look forward to the road ahead.

Happy Saabing!
